The nature of flavour

The story of tea runs deeper.

Volcanic activity shaped the soils and landscapes of Tengchong.

Volcanic soil

The land that gives tea its character.

A porous structure, air and moisture. A mineral foundation for the tea plant.

Rare land. A distinctive leaf. Our own path.

We grow Qing Xin oolong in the volcanic highlands of Yunnan and oversee the entire journey of our tea: from fresh leaves to fermentation, packaging and export. Our story began with a search for a place where the natural conditions and the tea cultivar would bring out the best in each other. That place was Tengchong.

The western foothills of the Gaoligong Mountains. Frequent mist, humid air and cool nights. Our gardens are surrounded by forests, far from major cities and industrial areas.

Qing Xin oolong

One cultivar. A unique place of origin.

We chose Qing Xin oolong for our plantations. But a tea’s character comes from more than its cultivar: altitude, soil, light and the surrounding forest all matter. Together, they create a full-bodied yet smooth infusion, a floral and honeyed aroma, delicate mineral notes and a lingering sweet finish.

Flavour begins below the ground.

The loose, porous structure lets water and air through. The soil contains selenium, zinc, magnesium, potassium and calcium. Its mildly acidic environment suits the tea plant.

Time works in favour of flavour.

At 2,300–2,500 metres, the cool climate slows the growth of new shoots. The leaves mature gradually, accumulating amino acids and aromatic compounds.

A tea garden, part of a living forest.

The forest ecosystem maintains humidity, protects the soil and creates a natural microclimate. Biodiversity helps keep the plantations resilient.

Anaerobic fermentation

Nature creates. Craft brings it to life.

GABA tea is held in an oxygen-free environment. During this process, the concentration of gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA, in the leaves increases. The quality of fresh leaves and carefully selected processing conditions determine the result. Nie Qun adapted the technique to Tengchong’s high-mountain leaves and continues to develop it alongside tea industry specialists.

From the tea plant to the finished package.

Our own plantations, an anaerobic fermentation facility, a pressing line, tea paste production and a quality-control laboratory. We monitor raw leaves, partially processed tea and finished products at every stage. We provide Certificates of Analysis (COA) for our batches, documenting quality indicators and GABA content.

Nie Qun · Company founder

First, find your own land.

Nie Qun has worked in the tea industry for many years, specialising in GABA tea production. Together with Taiwanese experts, he explored China’s tea-growing regions, studied soils and compared leaf samples. The search led him to Tengchong. Here, the company established Qing Xin oolong plantations and its own production facilities. Today, Nie Qun personally introduces partners to the tea and the place where it begins.
